Our Fall Maintenance Checklist

Here are a few of the services that we recommend as we prepare for the fall season.

Perform an Oil Change

How often you should change your oil depends largely on the type of oil your vehicle uses. There are three types of oil that can be used in your engine:

  • Conventional Oil — Conventional oil offers the most basic protection for your engine. In fact, conventional oil’s protection is so rudimentary that it's not compatible with every type of engine; many high-performance engines operate at temperatures too high for conventional oil. Nevertheless, vehicles compatible with this oil will typically require an oil change every 3,000-5,000 miles.
  • Synthetic Blend — Synthetic blend oil is often chosen for high-mileage engines. Formulated with additional additives such as gasket sealants and detergents to fight carbon buildup, this oil is ideal for aging engines that need extra protection. Synthetic blend oil typically requires an oil change every 5,000-7,500 miles.
  • Full Synthetic — Synthetic oil is considered the gold standard for protecting your engine. Able to withstand temperatures of nearly 500°F, this oil offers superior protection for your engine and the longest change intervals. Using full synthetic oil means a  change interval of about 7,500-10,000 miles.

Check Your Tires

Because your tires are vital to providing traction on the road, you want to make sure they're always in good shape. Before fall, we recommend checking your tire tread depth to ensure that you have sufficient tread to power you through the upcoming season. Fall can bring lots of inclement weather. Having healthy tires ensures optimal safety through every type of weather.

You'll also want to make sure that your tires are sufficiently inflated. Under-inflated tires are one of the leading causes of sudden blowouts. Ensuring you have properly inflated your tires can help keep you safe in the upcoming season.

Check Your Vehicle's A/C System

Checking your vehicle's air conditioning system is a great way to ward off potential issues with your system. Moisture getting into your system can cause corrosion, costing thousands of dollars in repair. However, a routine air conditioning system check ensures that your climate control system operates correctly and that your Freon is at the proper level.

Swap Out Your Windshield Wipers

An old set of windshield wipers can cause visibility issues in inclement weather. New windshield wipers can help maximize your visibility by effectively clearing your windshield of water and debris when you need it the most. We recommend replacing your windshield wipers annually to ensure you can command the road safely.

Check Your Battery

Winter can be one of the most challenging seasons for your battery. Cold temperatures make it more difficult for your battery to hold a charge, and starting your vehicle in colder weather requires additional amps from your battery. This combination can weaken your battery and make it unable to start your vehicle when needed. We recommend performing a battery test before fall to avoid battery issues.
